The best Ski resorts around Tehran
Iran has long been an international destination in the Middle East for eager snow powder lovers during the winter. While everybody thinks Iran is a desert country. It may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but yes Tehran is laid in the snow-capped slopes of the Alborz Mountains. Tehran is surrounded by the best ski resorts in the world.

Among them, Dizin is the Biggest. Darbandsar and Tochal are the most modern, Shemshak and Ab-e-Ali are the oldest, also Darbandsar is a local in the vicinity of Tehran. All are located less than 100 kilometers from the capital and to international standards. There are different hotels and hostels that respond to the wishes of tourists and locals for those who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. These Ski Resorts are located in the high elevation of mountains and keep their snow well thus their ski season generally extends from November to May. If you want to make a list of the most famous and popular, the Dizin ski resort, the Shemshak ski resort, and the Darbandsar ski resort should be at the top of the list. To get to the Dizin Resort, you must take Chalus, i.e. 59 roads towards Tehran, northwest of the city. It is 140 km and it will take you about 3 hours to get there (Mountainous road).
To get to Shemshak or Darbandsar stations and their hotel, namely Shemshak Hotel, you must take Babaei Highway then Lashgarak Road in the direction of Tehran from the northeast of the city. It will be a 70 km mountain hike and it will take you about an hour and a half to get there from the capital. Now, although Dizin is further from the capital, it is certainly the best resort in Iran. May you have been to many ski resorts around the world, but nothing can complete your unforgettable skiing experience on the powder snow of the Dizin slopes.

Here is an overview of the ski resorts dotted around the Alborz mountain range.

Dizin
Located about 140 km north of Tehran, Dizin is by far the largestĀ  Ski resort in Iran equipped with three gondolas and 12 chairlifts. It takes about 3 hours to get there if the road is clear enough. It is the most crowded resort and where the locals will relax on weekends. If you want to spend the night on the mountain, this may be one of the best places to do it ( of course don't miss the Tochal mountainous Hotel).
Dizin reaches an altitude of 3,600 meters and therefore has more than a kilometer of vertical difference. The terrain of this resort is ideal for intermediate skiers and boarders who are trying to move to this more advanced category. It also offers smaller and easier hikes for skiers and snowboarders who are starting to paddle in the backcountry. Overall, Dizin may be preferable for intermediaries.

Shemshak and Darbandsar
On the way to Dizin, on a road that starts northeast of Tehran, there are two stations located one next to the other; Darbandsar and Shemshak. They are about 90 minutes from Tehran while Dizin is 35 minutes from Shemshak when the road is open. Although Shemshak and Darbandsar are both a bit smaller than Dizin, they have remarkable slopes on the piste and towering mountains behind the ski areas that will leave avid hinterland lovers licking their lips.
Shemshak has two main lifts which are double chairs. Although they are quite slow, they take you high enough in the mountain and open your beautiful intermediate tracks on-piste and very beautiful tracks off-piste. Darbandsar is a bit smaller than Shemshak with only one main elevator. It is tilted to one side, which means that you ski a little on the side of the mountain.

Tochal
One of the most unique ski resorts in Iran. You can watch your ski resort while you are staying at the hotel or hiking in the streets. Also never forget that you can have an unforgettable accommodation at the hotel of Tochal at the height of 3600 m. At 3963m, Tochal ski resort is the fifth-highest resort in the world, ensuring a long season from December to at least April and sometimes June.
Tochal is good for convenience and price, but the better terrain may be found at the other resorts. When it comes to comfortable accommodation, both Dizin and Shemshak have large hotels that will almost always have space. There are also several privately-owned cottages around that can be rented out. Prices for these vary on the quality of the cottage. Nightlife can be limited in resorts as most Iranians prefer to socialize at home in the evening.

Ab-Ali ski resort
The oldest and the first ski slope to have installed ski lifts in Iran in 1953, it is located 70 km north-east of Tehran on Haraz Road. In addition, it is the closest ski resort to Mt. Damavand, with beautiful slopes for beginners and intermediate skiers. This small track is the cradle of modern skiing and the base of winter sports in Iran. It has a training site with qualified coaches offering a good opportunity for beginners to learn skiing, it also has a few stands that rent cheap ski equipment; the entry ticket to the ski resort is cheap.
Having a cool climate in summer offers interests unrelated to skiing such as hiking, trekking, and climbing, and being convenient for thermal water, the sanctuary of Imam Zade Hashem and the beautiful village of Mosha with many villas, many traditional restaurants, and leisure facilities have made this place a tourist area and suitable for you to visit.
